Mental Health First Aid (Adult) - register interest
2-Day MHFA England course.
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) courses are for everyone who works with, lives with or supports adults. They will teach you the skills and confidence to spot the signs of mental health issues, offer first aid and guide them towards the support they need. In doing so, you can speed up a person’s recovery and stop a mental health issue from getting worse.
Our courses won't teach you to be a therapist, but we will teach you to listen, reassure and respond, even in a crisis - and even potentially stop a crisis from happening.
Mental Health First Aiders have:
• An in-depth understanding of mental health and factors that affect the wellbeing
• Practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues
• Confidence to reassure and support a person in distress
• Enhanced interpersonal skills such as non-judgemental listening
• Knowledge to help a person recover their health by guiding them to further support – whether that’s through self-help sites, their place of learning, the NHS, or a mix – engaging with parents, carers and external agencies where appropriate
• Ability to support people with long-term mental health issues or disability to thrive
• Tools to look after your own mental wellbeing

“This Course has made me re-evaluate how I have been dealing with my children’s mental health needs.”
Mental Health First Aid is an educational course that teaches people how to identify, understand and help a person who may be experiencing a mental health issue. In the same way, as we learn physical first aid, Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to recognise those crucial warning signs of mental ill-health.
In each section you’ll learn how to:
Spot the early signs of a mental health problem in people
Feel confident helping a person experiencing a problem
Provide help on a first aid basis
Help protect a person who might be at risk of harm
Help prevent a mental health illness from getting worse
Help a person recover faster
Guide a person towards the right support
Reduce the stigma of mental health problems
The sessions will be a mix of presentations group discussions and group work activities. Our MHFA England Trainer will provide a very safe learning environment and is trained to support you throughout the whole course. If you don’t feel comfortable joining in certain parts, then don’t, we won’t ask you to do something you aren’t comfortable with. The course is ideal for parents, teachers, tutors, sports coaches and anyone who comes into contact with young people as part of their work. Young people over 16 are also welcome to understand themselves and their peers.
